Traveling from Ellensburg to Alder Lake

We didn’t rush this morning and finally left Ellensburg around 11 am after getting gas then hooking up the car.  The weather was sunny and warm with a bit of haze.  The trip took about four hours with a stop for lunch by the side of the road on Highway 12 at White Pass.  IMG_4879 In the winter, White Pass is a ski area.  Even in the summer there’s still snow on the mountains.  The elevation at White Pass is 4500 feet.IMG_4848 The rolling hills between Ellensburg and Yakima.IMG_4854 Mount Adams with Yakima in the foreground.IMG_4887 Mount Rainier, west of White Pass on Highway 12.

On the way to Alder Lake Park we saw some beautiful views of the lake.  We reserved one of the biggest sites in the park but it’s still a fairly small pull-thru.  After manuevering this large motorhome into the site so that we could use the hookups as well as put out both slides, Dave got out a couple of “Lego” boards to help get us level.  The automatic jacks didn’t do a good job this time, so Dave put the jacks down manually.

We have full hookups here at Alder Lake, but are “roughing it” with only 30 amp service.  We’re experienced with 30 amp since we used it for 20 years in our other two motorhomes.

Our Verizon cell service is very weak here, but with the antenna booster, we are able to get enough service to get online via Dave’s phone.  There are a lot of trees in this park, but we got a satellite signal.

This park is quiet and serene.  The lake is beautiful.  We could only book two nights here because they were full for this weekend.  We’ll make the most of our two nights here and enjoy a more natural campsite than we had in Ellensburg!IMG_4906 Alder Lake was created in 1945 when Tacoma Power put in this dam at the Nisqually River.IMG_4903 IMG_4908 The swimming beach at Alder Lake.IMG_4911 Site #71 at Alder Lake.  No highway noise here!  As RVers, we are able to enjoy and appreciate many different kinds of camping experiences.

  5. What beautiful pictures of the area. We have traveled that road from Ellensburg to Yakima many a time going to see Brandon in Boise, ID.

The pictures of Central brought back memories of when Brandon attended Boys State the summer before his senior year of high school.

Glad you are having a good time. Geocaching sounds fun...maybe we will have to take that up sometime in the future.
