Meet Our New Granddaughter!

Newborn SophieIMG950207

Our first grandchild, Sophie Peace, was born Sunday night, 4/17/11 at 11:30 pm.  Sophie weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces and was 21 inches long.  Our daughter-in-law, Kiersten, was put in the hospital Friday afternoon because of pre-eclampsia and the baby was born by C-section.  The miracle of life--it's precious!

The hospital is 40 minutes from our house when travelling in the middle of the night and there's no traffic.  We met Sophie when she was only 2 1/2 hours old.  She slept the whole time we visited.  Now the proud parents are getting some much needed rest and we will visit again tonight.

Ultrasound

Just a little something to keep us going until the due date next April:

15Nov ultrasound profile-1

The prediction is that the baby is a grandDAUGHTER!  Since Dave and I have two sons, this is very welcome news.  It's about time that we have a girl in our family, besides our wonderful daughter-in-law, this is!  And if the ultrasound isn't correct, a baby boy would be very welcome, too.

Grandparents-To-Be!

Our son, Tim, and daughter-in-law, Kiersten, have officially announced that they are expecting a baby on April 10, 2011!  This will be our first grandchild.  Dave and I are very excited and happy for Tim and Kiersten.

Tim and Kiersten have been married for six years, and we have all gotten accustomed to coming and going as we please.  A new family member will change things tremendously, but it is a change that we are all looking forward to!

Last year we left for our six-week trip on April 13.  Not this year!  We need to stay at home and be available to meet our new grandchild.  We may take an extended trip in January and February of 2011 of instead of April and May.  There aren't too many places to choose from when you travel in the winter, so we are thinking of going to California with possibly a side trip to St. George, Utah.

Big News!

Welcome to my new blog follower, Pidge, who writes a blog called The Frugal Travelers.

Tonight I have big news to share.  Our son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Kiersten, are expecting a baby, and it's due April 10, 2011.  Actually, we've known since mid-August, but we were sworn to secrecy until the first trimester was over and until Kiersten's extended family could be told in person.

This will be Dave's and my first grandchild.  It's exciting!  We're happy that Tim and Kiersten only live 45 minutes away from us.

You can see a link to Kiersten's blog among the links the blogs that I follow.  She has been writing blogs during each week of the pregnancy, but she saved them all to post today.

Tim and Kiersten celebrated their sixth anniversary this summer and are both accomplished young people.  We are happy that now it's time to make us grandparents-to-be!

Amusing Photo

Last evening we celebrated our son, Tim’s, birthday by having dinner with Tim and Kiersten at Pastini Pastaria in Portland.  For those that know Portland, we went to  the Pastini on Broadway near Lloyd Center.  Kiersten and I both ordered the Rigatoni Zuccati which featured roasted butternut squash, wild mushrooms, spinach and rosemary in a light cream sauce. We always enjoy spending time with the two of them.

I haven’t blogged about Jonathan lately because we were told not to call attention to where he is and what he is doing.  So for those that know, I will just say that he seems to be doing fine.  And for those that don’t know where he is right now (no, he’s not in jail!), he’s still fine.

Our son, Tim, sent us the following amusing picture, which was entitled “Small Aircraft Levels Four Buildings”:

Pastini Pastaria

Yesterday was our daughter-in-law Kiersten's birthday.  We joined Tim and Kiersten for dinner at the restaurant of her choice, Pastini Pastaria at Bridgeport Village in Tigard.  I had a butternut squash ravioli dish.  I don't usually eat ravioli, but this dish was excellent. Yummy!

They have four restaurants in Portland, besides the one in Tigard and one in Beaverton.  And they also have a branch in Bend and in Corvallis.  None in Vancouver, which may be just as well since we would go there too often.  Maybe I'll try this dish next time we go there:

Beautiful Day!

This morning Dave and I went to Concordia University to visit Kiersten and see the new library.  I love libraries!  I'll have to go back sometime and spend some time in the stacks.  We ran into our friend Sarah at the library and it was great to see her.  The spectacular new Concordia library building:

Here's Kiersten in her remodeled Registrar's office:

We ate lunch at McMenamin's Kennedy School which is always a fun place to visit. Then we came home and took a walk around our neighborhood.  It's a beautiful, warm day.  Note the lovely blue sky in this photo that I took of Mount St. Helen's from our driveway:
