Welcome to my new blog follower, Judy, a full-time RVer, who writes a blog called Travels with Emma. The other day, Judy included a picture of Bryce Canyon National Park and challenged her blog readers to identify it. I recognized her picture right away, because we took the following pictures and many others at Bryce when we visited there on April 20, 2010.
When I started writing my blog in April, 2009, it was used as an update about my upcoming heart surgery. Gradually, as I recovered from the surgery and felt better, I started to blog about other subjects, including our travels. 
In late December, 2009, I began adding pictures to my blog. That was fun for me as well as my blog readers. I discovered a new-found interest in photography. You know it’s bad when I say to Dave, let’s go somewhere so I can take pictures for my blog!
When Dave and I went on our six-week Grand Circle tour in our motorhome this spring, my blog became a travelogue of our journey. We hope to take more of these long trips in our motorhome, and in the meantime, we enjoy going on shorter trips as often as possible. 
Gradually, more and more RVers have started following my blog. We RVers seem to be a vocal bunch, and those are the people that leave 99% of the comments on my blog. Thank you! It’s fun to get comments. Yes, I’m writing the blog for my own enjoyment but, at the same time, it’s nice that strangers have tuned in, also. And after reading their comments and reading their blogs, these people don’t feel like strangers, but online friends. Some of them, like Margie and Bruce and Ali and Ron, we’ve even met in person!
My blog is a travel blog, yes, but it’s also a blog about me and all of my interests. I know that if I veer off into the subjects of religion and politics, which are two of the major no-no subjects of travel blogs, I will lose many of my online RV friends as followers.
But I can’t write about travel every day, because we are not traveling right now. I have other subjects that I want to write about, talk about, and dialogue about. I thought about starting another blog which would be devoted to my thoughts and ideas about Christianity, but I don’t want to have the pressure of having to write that kind of a blog every day, either. I want to be able to write about what is on my mind each day, whether it’s travel, or music, or books, or religion, or politics, or whatever.
If I lose readers along the way, I have to reluctantly say, so be it. All I can ask them to do is to look at my blog and if it’s not interesting to them that day, then don’t read it! And if you DO happen to be interested in something I write about, please send me a note or comment. Feedback is great! Even if you are unhappy about what I write, feedback is still valuable!
When I started writing my blog, I was advised to make sure it was interesting to me - I've tried to do that.

By writing your thoughts and feelings I feel I get to know you better. By adding my comments to what I read I feel like you get to know me better. Yes, I think friendships form via the blogs. I love reading what you have to say!! I find it very interesting!!

Amen to your post. Even though we are fulltimer's, we don't travel everyday. Life is still just life and it needs to be written about also. I enjoy all your posts, no matter what they are. They are awesome! Oh oh..I'm not supposed to be using that word anymore. LOL Guess I'll have to find a new one. :) Oh, and have nice day. :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband Ray and I are not RV'ers. But we are travelers using time shares. We have known Carol and Dave for several years. Carol, I feel you need to need to post what is most important to you when you are writing. We love to read of your travels and the photos just enhance the whole thing. Thanks for all your time posting. R&P
ReplyDeleteI always worry that since we have not left yet on our adventure as fulltimers, that my blog will be boring,two people living in a small town in MO. But I have found that even on slow news days, fellow bloggers are interested in what is going on in your world, so I think this is an inspiration to blog. Also receiving comments and then on rare occasions actually meeting and putting a face and person with the names is just about as good as it gets. Keep up the great blogs. Be safe out there. ReplyDeleteCarol, sorry to have been away for a week, but we were swamped! Your blog is one of our favorites on the must read list. However, I have to admit I do skip you once in a while. There is another favorite blogger I have intentionally skipped for the past few weeks simply because of his current line of material. I like the guy a lot, but he's currently driving me crazy. He'll recover soon, and so will I. In the meantime, you write what pleases you, and we'll be here with you ... most of the time!
ReplyDeleteFulltimers don't just read blogs of other fulltimers. We all have varied interests. One of my main interests is birds. If someone doesn't like that, they can just click off. And Margie is right, we don't travel all of the time. Day to day challenges and joys is what life is all about. :)

ReplyDeletethose are mighty fine blogworthy pictures, Carol..fantastic!!..us?..we are still waiting for our turn to be free of the citylife..one day..but until then I, too will blog about what we do..and sometimes what we don't do..as long as it is interesting to me..it is blogworthy!..and getting a few great shots with the camera?..BONUS!!!..have an excellent day!!!
