Leave It All On the Field

football 2

Football season is in full swing and Dave refereed his first varsity football game of this school year Friday night.  Cheryl and I walked on the track by ourselves because both of the guys were refereeing different games.   The Union high school football field (where we walk around the track) doesn’t have lights, so it’s mostly used as a practice field.

We did a good deed after our walk tonight.  We noticed that the door of the football shed at the school was open, so after our walk, we went around to all the (locked) doors of the high school until we spotted a custodian.  We got his attention and he thanked us for telling him about the open door and he came right out and closed it.  We just knew that some of that equipment would disappear if that door stayed open all weekend.

We always laugh when we see all the items that are left on the field by the kids at the end of each day.  Last night we saw one brand-new football shoe (cleats).  I’ll bet that boy’s parents were mad when he came home with one only one shoe.  Cleats are expensive!  And his football coach might not have been too happy when he showed up for practice today with only one shoe.  Tonight the shoe was still there—do they not search for their missing items??

We’ve seen backpacks, shirts, hoodies, socks, underwear (eew), playbooks, and lots of different kinds of water bottles.  Well, anyway, it adds to the excitement of walking around a high school track during football season!

  1. Aren't kids great? In life there are lots of things that should be "left on the field." Too bad we don't always leave some things where they land, but we pick them up and wave them around for everyone else to see. Even bloggers do that sometimes. So far you've been pretty good leaving things where they land -- thanks for being a calm influence on those around you.

  2. Interesting what gets "left on the field". It also causes one to think about those words "did you leave it all on the field today". There's alot of meaning behind those words.
Thanks for the post. Be safe and take care!
