Dave and I are here at Fort Stevens State Park in Hammond, Oregon (near Astoria) with Donna and Russ of Travels in Therapy. They will be here a few more days, but we have to go home tomorrow morning so that Dave can continue with his football officiating season.
Fort Stevens is a wonderful state park and many people start their journey down the Oregon coast on Highway 101 from this area. The park has lots of camping sites and even a few with full hookups, like the site we are in.
A jokester named Dave with his cell phone, not an X-rated picture...
Dave and I took a walk around some of the camping loops yesterday afternoon after we got here, and we came across this skinny deer hanging out in one of the campsites.
This tree in our site had a hole in it that reminded me of a deer's eye. It also reminds me of a giraffe's eye. Do you see the resemblance?
Last night, we sat around a cozy campfire with Donna and Russ and we all roasted hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire. Some rain has been predicted, but so far we've had good weather and we're planning on getting together around the fire pit again tonight.
Today we all drove across the Astoria Bridge to the Washington side of the Columbia River. We drove all around Cape Disappointment State Park, Ilwaco, and Long Beach, and even drove on the beach for a bit. Fun times! We had lunch together at Dave's and my favorite Long Beach eatery, Hungry Harbor Grille. Thanks so much for treating us to lunch, Donna and Russ!

We've had a fun couple of days with the Russ and Donna!
How can you not have fun with Russ and Donna! That has to be the skinniest deer I have ever seen.
ReplyDeleteLucky you to spend some time together with Russ and Donna. I'd sure like to meet all of you in person.
ReplyDeleteThanks for Dave's football link. I checked it out. I need all the help I can get with this football guessing game. :O
That is the cutest non-x-rated photo.
ReplyDeleteWe loved the Cape Disappointment area. The lighthouse was so neat.
We loved being with Russ and Donna. They are the neatest people. Glad you four had a wonderful time together.
Next time we are up inthat area we will be sure to stop there, it looks very nice.
ReplyDeletesuch a 'disappointment' that we all aren't together!! enjoy the campfire without us :*(
ReplyDeleteone day we will plan yet again!!!
Eye see, eye see!
ReplyDeleteWhen you are with Russ and Donna there will always be fun!!! When we lived in Long Beach, our favorite place was the Bakery for breakfast and lunch
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading my blog and leaving a comment, Betty. Russ and Donna are wonderful people and we enjoyed our time with them. You lived in Long Beach? Tell me more! I love Long Beach and Ilwaco. The bakery (Cottage Bakery?) is still going strong. We started going to Hungry Harbor Grille after it was closed for a while and then new owners from Vancouver took over a few years ago. They’ve done a good job with it, and when they added free wi-fi, we were hooked. Besides that, my husband LOVES hamburgers!
DeleteSo sorry you had to go home to football!! We sure enjoyed our time together and you and Dave made wonderful tour guides. Thanks so much for driving us around and showing us the sights...and especially for the drive on the beach. That was just too cool.
